Why location matters

Washington Parish and your Medicare Advantage options

Medicare Advantage plans are offered in set service areas, usually made up of whole parishes, and you must live in a plan’s service area to join it. The plans available in Washington Parish can differ from those in neighboring parishes, and benefits and costs can vary by parish and by your own eligibility. That’s why your agent starts with your full home address.

What about doctors outside the parish?

You can still compare your options with them in mind. Where you live decides which Medicare Advantage plans you can join, and each plan’s network decides which doctors and hospitals it covers. Bring a list of everyone you see, inside or outside Washington Parish, and your agent can check each one against the plans available at your address.

Meeting with your agent, wherever you are in the parish

Fussell Group is a family-owned Louisiana insurance agency, and our Northshore agents come to you. You can meet at your home, virtually, by phone or somewhere local where you feel comfortable. If you’d rather not travel, your review can happen by phone or video from start to finish. If you’d like an office visit, in-office appointments are available at our Covington home office.

Start with your ZIP code and a few simple details.

Common questions

Medicare questions from Washington Parish residents

Is there a Fussell Group office in Bogalusa or Franklinton?

Our home office is in Covington, and our Northshore agents come to you. You can meet at home, virtually, by phone or somewhere local in Washington Parish. In-office appointments are available at our Covington home office.

Do you serve all of Washington Parish?

Yes. Fussell Group serves all of Washington Parish, including Bogalusa and Franklinton. See how we serve communities across the state on our Louisiana Medicare page.

Are the Medicare Advantage plans in Washington Parish the same as in St. Tammany Parish?

Not necessarily. Medicare Advantage plans are usually offered by parish, so what’s available in Washington Parish can differ from St. Tammany Parish and other neighbors. Your agent will review the plans available at your own address.

Can we do my whole review by phone or video?

Yes. You can meet by phone or video from start to finish, or mix in an in-home visit if you prefer. Use the form below to tell us what works best.

How much does it cost to work with a Fussell Group agent?

Nothing. There’s no cost to you to work with a Fussell Group agent, and there’s no obligation to enroll.

Can I keep my doctors?

It depends on the coverage you choose. With Original Medicare, you can generally use any doctor or hospital that takes Medicare, anywhere in the U.S. With a Medicare Advantage plan, you may need to use doctors and hospitals in the plan’s network for non-emergency care. Networks can change: a plan can add or remove providers, and a doctor can leave a plan’s network. Your agent can help you check your doctors against the plans available to you.

Will my prescriptions be covered?

It depends on the plan. Drug coverage and costs can change from one year to the next. Bring a list of every prescription you take, with doses, so your agent can help you compare how each option covers them.

What are the main Medicare enrollment periods?

There are three main Medicare enrollment periods to know:

Initial Enrollment Period (IEP): Generally a seven-month window around when you first become eligible for Medicare: three months before your 65th birthday month, your birthday month and three months after.

Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): October 15 through December 7 each year. This is the yearly opportunity for people with Medicare to review and change health and drug coverage for the coming year. Changes generally take effect January 1.

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (OEP): January 1 through March 31 each year. This is for people already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan and allows one change, such as switching Medicare Advantage plans or returning to Original Medicare and, if applicable, joining a standalone Part D plan.

Your Fussell Group agent can help you understand which enrollment period applies to your situation.

Do I need to review my plan every year?

It’s a good idea. Your Medicare costs, benefits and providers can change each year, so a yearly review helps you check that your coverage still fits your doctors, prescriptions and budget.

Is Fussell Group part of Medicare or the government?

No. Fussell Group Insurance Advisors is an insurance agency and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the government or the federal Medicare program.

Is there free, unbiased Medicare help from the state?

Yes. For free, unbiased Medicare counseling from the state, you can call the Louisiana Senior Health Information Program (LaSHIP) at 1-800-259-5300. Fussell Group is not affiliated with LaSHIP.

What’s the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement?

A Medicare Advantage plan is another way to get your Medicare coverage, instead of Original Medicare. A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy works alongside Original Medicare and helps pay some of the costs it doesn’t cover, like copayments, coinsurance and deductibles. You can’t have both at the same time. Your agent can walk you through how each option would work with your doctors, prescriptions and budget.
